What’s the Concern About Funding Girl Scout Councils and GSUSA?

• The Girl Scout organization persists in focusing on ultra-progressive political activism and activists, presenting controversial information and events to its girl members.  2018-2019 examples include:
  • hosting G.I.R.L. Agenda 2018: Leading Change Through Civic Action, featuring keynote speaker Jill Biden’s message to “think of yourself as the next Ruth Bader Ginsberg on the Supreme Court; think of yourself as the next Michelle Obama, you know, our fabulous First Lady.”
  • promoting, participating and partnering in the Teen Vogue Summit, an event focused on reproductive justice, fake news, and LGBTQ+ rights, with Cecile Richards/former Planned Parenthood CEO, Sharim Hossain/manager of Youth Organizing for Planned Parenthood, and Andrea Archibald/Chief Girl and Family Engagement Officer of Girl Scouts USA among the presenters.
  • Girl Scouts across the country opening for Michelle Obama’s Becoming book tour.
  • promoting RBG, a documentary about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
  • celebrating newly elected, self described Democratic socialist, Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez.
  • sharing a link to New York Governor Cuomo’s State of the State address in which he states his intent to pass legislation adding Roe V. Wade abortion rights to the state’s constitutionally protected rights.
• Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) and local councils continue to encourage and celebrate girl members’ participation in the Women’s March which includes “access to safe, legal, affordable abortion” among its unifying principles.
• Girl Scouts’ curriculum for girls, sold and promoted by every local Girl Scout council, recommends pro-abortion role models/organizations such as Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton, Amnesty Intl., Population Council, ACLU, and National Organization For Women.
• GSUSA confirms that its local councils and troops may collaborate with Planned Parenthood.
• GSUSA is the largest member organization of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), providing 2.6 million of its 10 million girl and adult members worldwide and paying approximately 1.23 million dollars annually to WAGGGS based on the number of registered GSUSA members.
• WAGGGS, which states that “anyone who is a Girl Guide or Girl Scout is automatically a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts,” aggressively promotes youth reproductive/abortion and sexual rights, specifically on behalf of its 10 million members.
• GSUSA maintains memberships in abortion rights advocacy groups, including the Coalition for Adolescent Girls. Other organizations working alongside GSUSA in these groups include abortion providers International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International, and numerous organizations that push for unrestricted abortion rights.

Where Does the Cookie Money Go?

• A girl’s troop keeps an average of just 10 to 20 percent of the money she collects from selling cookies.
• The local council receives an average of 65 to 75 percent of the money collected by all local troops.
• GSUSA collects a royalty payment based upon its licensed trademark on every box of cookies produced.  With approximately 200 million boxes of cookies sold annually, this amounts to millions of dollars of funding for GSUSA every year.
• New Girl Scout Council policies require that individual donations to girls/troop in lieu of cookie purchases must be used to purchase cookies to be donated to military troops, food pantries, etc.  So a monetary gift, intended to directly support the girls and avoid financially benefiting the Girl Scout organization, is actually buying more cookies.

The AZ East Valley Pro-Life Alliance is profoundly grateful to the 600-plus pro-life Arizonans who packed the House hearing rooms last Wednesday,  February 20^th  in protest of HB 2696 and to all those who contacted their legislators in opposition to this inhuman bill that sought to make infanticide legal in Arizona;  repealing AZ Fetal Resuscitation Law (ARS 36-2301).

ARS 36-2301 states:  If an abortion is performed and a human fetus or embryo is delivered alive, it is the duty of any physician performing such an abortion and any additional physicians in attendance as required by section 36-2301.01 to see that all available means and medical skills are used to promote, preserve and maintain the life of such a fetus or embryo.

On behalf of our pre-born babies we are extremely thankful to our legislators for standing for life and making us all proud to be Arizonans as we watched HB 2696 go down in defeat!

The New York state legislature voted Tuesday, January 22nd on legislation to enshrine a “fundamental right” to abortion in state law and eliminate protections for pre-born babies until birth, set to mark the anniversary of Roe v.Wade.  The state Senate voted 38-24 in favor of the so-called “Reproductive Health Act”, the Assembly passed it 92-47.  This bill declares that “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child, or to have an abortion,” erases the state’s recognition of pre-born babies older than 24 weeks as potential homicide victims, removes abortion from the penal code entirely, and allows licensed health practitioners other than full doctors to commit abortions.

‘No different than infanticide’: Pro-life leaders respond to New York legalizing abortion to birth   By Calvin Freiburger

Pro-Life leaders and commentators are responding with disgust, sorrow and resolve in the New York legislator’s votes Tuesday evening, January 22, to enshrine a “fundamental right” to abortion in state law and strip protections from pre-born babies until birth. Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who signed the bill, called it a “historic victory for New Yorkers and our progressive values” and ordered the One World Trade Center spire to be lit in pink to mark the occasion at the very memorial site dedicated to the thousands killed by  senseless violence and hate in celebration of the unrestricted violence of abortion that treats the unborn with more antipathy than criminals. This so-called “Reproductive Health Act” ( RHA) is an extreme bill sold to the public under the pretense it ‘updates’ New York’s law which couldn’t be further from than the truth….

New York celebrates legalizing abortion until birth by lighting One World Trade Center Pink  By Martin M. Barillas

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) directed that the One World Trade Center’s spire be lit pink overnight on Tuesday to celebrate his signing of a law allowing abortion until birth in some cases, and letting non-doctors commit abortions.  The law, the Reproductive Health Act, also erases the state’s recognition of pre-born babies older than 24 weeks as potential homicide victims. This bill Cuomo called an “historic victory for New Yorkers and their progressive values” was passed on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that brought abortion on demand to every state; New York the first state to legalize abortion in 1970.  In the face of a federal government intent on rolling back Roe v. Wade and women’s reproductive rights, Cuomo promised he would enact this critical legislation within the first 30 days of the new session….
